Josh Junior -
skipper

Hi, my name is josh. I started sailing, way back in the day with my dad in the sunburst. I have enjoyed success's sailing the Opti, P class, 420 briefly, and for the past few years the laser. The laser is what I sail almost all the time. I also do a bit of match racing. Match racing is very enjoyable and compliments the laser sailing quite well, I think. I want to step up our match racing, by winning most of this year's Australasian match racing circuit, and then, next session head over to Europe to compete in the some bigger regattas, and hopefully win a grade 1. I would like to see Wellington Match become the best, world number 1.

Matthew Steven - Mainsheet

My name is Matt Steven, I started sailing at age 10 and started racing at 12. I did the normal Opti, P and Starling progression through the junior classes and then moved into the lasers where I have had the chance to travel to Australia and Canada to compete in international events. I currently sail lasers and OK’s as well as match racing with Josh and Chris. In terms of my single handed sailing, at the moment I am working towards an OK dinghy campaign for the 2010 World Champs in Wellington after winning the junior world champ title in 2008. With match racing I want our team to take it as far as we can, i.e. be the best team in the world. I mostly sail as mainsheet hand but I am also skippering some of the regattas that Wellington Match compete in, including winning the 2008 New Zealand youth match racing nationals.

Chris Jones - Bowman

My name is Chris Jones, I began sailing and racing at age 9 in Opti’s. Following the Opti I then progressed through the P and Starling classes before moving onto the Laser which I currently sail. Alongside the Laser I am also currently match racing with Josh and Matt. At the moment I have reduced the amount of Laser sailing I am doing due to university study. I have not however cut down on the match racing and am keen to take this as far as possible as well as getting some time in the other positions on the boat to introduce some more variety.

From time to time the core Wellington Match crew are joined by other sailors depending on the number required for each regatta.
